A routine security operation in Kogi State has uncovered a troubling case of alleged internal compromise after troops of the 12 Brigade arrested a serving personnel of the Nigerian Air Force for reportedly transporting illegal weapons to the Federal Capital Territory.

The officer, identified as Aircraftman Anas Muhammed Fakai, was intercepted at Kabba Junction in Lokoja at about 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2025. According to military sources, he was found conveying two pump-action guns and one Browning pistol to Abuja under suspicious circumstances.

The arrest has raised fresh concerns about the growing infiltration of security agencies by individuals aiding the circulation of illegal arms, a trend that continues to fuel violent crimes and insecurity nationwide. Investigators are now working to determine whether the officer was acting alone or as part of a wider supply network.

Security analysts warn that the case highlights a deeper institutional issue requiring urgent reforms, tighter internal monitoring and stronger accountability systems within Nigeria’s armed forces.

The suspect is currently in military custody as further investigations continue.
