The Akwa Ibom State Government has unveiled plans for a dedicated transport service to facilitate easy movement for attendees of this year’s Christmas Unplugged 3.0 festivities. The initiative is designed to enhance accessibility, improve crowd management, and ensure the safety and convenience of thousands of residents and visitors expected at the annual holiday celebration.
The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, disclosed this on Friday, November 28, 2025, during an inspection tour with selected new media practitioners. He explained that the special transportation arrangement forms part of the state’s broader strategy to elevate the Christmas Unplugged experience and encourage greater community participation.
Dr. Udofia noted that the dedicated buses will primarily benefit attendees who may find it difficult to commute home, especially after the late-night entertainment sessions for which the event is known. To address this, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is collaborating with the Ministry of Transport to deploy conveniently located buses that will run across major parts of Uyo metropolis.
Unity Park, the main venue for Christmas Unplugged, will serve as the central take-off point for all shuttle operations. From there, buses will move along designated routes to ensure smooth dispersal of crowds after each night’s activities.
Describing Christmas Unplugged as an event that has gained international visibility and cultural relevance, the Commissioner emphasised that meticulous planning is crucial to maintain its reputation. He said the government is committed to delivering a safe, well-organised and memorable holiday experience that reflects Akwa Ibom’s hospitality and growing tourism profile.
Dr. Udofia added that passengers will be required to pay the applicable fares for the shuttle service, stressing that the charges are necessary to maintain efficiency and sustainability throughout the duration of the festivities.
The special transport service is expected to operate throughout the Christmas Unplugged season, offering residents and guests a reliable mobility option as the state prepares for one of its biggest annual cultural showcases.
