In a decisive display of military precision and coordination, troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, supported by Nigeria Police helicopters, successfully rescued six individuals abducted by bandits in the Ejiba–Saminaka Forest area, which spans Yagba East and Yagba West Local Government Areas of Kogi State. The operation, carried out as part of an ongoing intelligence-driven search and rescue mission, underscores the Nigerian security agencies’ commitment to restoring peace and protecting lives in regions prone to banditry.

According to Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade Lokoja, the meticulously planned mission involved a synchronized air and ground offensive, leveraging aerial reconnaissance to track the movements of the criminals while ground troops advanced through the challenging forest terrain. The overwhelming show of force reportedly threw the bandits into disarray, prompting them to release their captives in a bid to escape the encirclement.

All six rescued victims have been reunited with their families, with one individual receiving urgent medical attention for minor injuries sustained during captivity. Lieutenant Abdullahi emphasized that the operation is part of a broader effort by the Nigerian Army and law enforcement agencies to eradicate criminal networks, restore security in vulnerable communities, and prevent further abductions.

Residents and community leaders have expressed profound relief and gratitude to the security agencies, hailing the operation as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-led interventions. The mission also highlights the strategic advantage of combining air support with ground operations in neutralizing criminal elements operating in dense and difficult terrains.

Security officials have pledged continued vigilance across Kogi State, assuring the public of persistent patrols, proactive intelligence gathering, and rapid-response operations to ensure the safety of residents and uphold the rule of law. The Ejiba–Saminaka rescue marks a significant victory in the fight against banditry, reinforcing the government’s determination to protect citizens and maintain stability in affected communities.
