Security operatives in Delta State have intensified their crackdown on criminal networks, following a major operation carried out on December 1, 2025, by the Special Anti-Cult Unit (SACU). Acting on reliable intelligence provided by a concerned stakeholder, SACU personnel stormed the Obiaruku Forest, a location long associated with kidnappers and armed gangs.
The operatives encountered armed resistance shortly after entering the forest. A fierce gun duel ensued, during which one of the suspected kidnappers was fatally hit as he attempted to repel the advancing officers. The remaining gang members escaped deeper into the forest, abandoning their weapons and other operational items in the process.
A detailed sweep of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in multiple criminal operations. The firearms were secured as evidence while efforts to track down the fleeing suspects continue.
The Obiaruku raid was part of a broader security push involving CP-SAT and Eagle-Net units, who, at different locations, also recorded breakthroughs. Their operations resulted in the discovery and recovery of several cut-to-size guns, underscoring the scale of illegal arms circulating within the region.
Security authorities say the coordinated efforts reflect a renewed determination to dismantle kidnapping syndicates and restore confidence across vulnerable communities. They also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring that intelligence-driven operations remain at the heart of policing strategy in the state.
