National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has assured parents of the over 300 abducted pupils and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic primary and secondary schools in Niger State that their children are alive, safe, and will soon be rescued.
The pupils and staff were kidnapped on Friday, November 21, in Papiri, Agwarra Local Government Area of Niger State, sparking nationwide outrage and deep concern among families and religious leaders.
Ribadu gave the reassurance on Monday during a meeting with the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, parents of the victims, and officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at St. Michael’s Catholic Cathedral, Kontagora.
Addressing the worried parents, Ribadu said: “The children are doing fine and will be back soon.” He explained that the federal government had stepped up its response, with intensified security operations aimed at securing the victims’ safe return.
According to Daniel Atori, Media Aide to the Bishop, Ribadu’s message brought some relief to a number of parents, though others remained anxious until their children are physically reunited with them.
The NSA described the situation as “a very solemn and difficult moment,” noting that government bears the responsibility of protecting its citizens. He also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is personally concerned about the incident
