NLC Threatens Nationwide Protest as Insecurity Deepens Across Nigeria

The Nigeria Labour Congress has issued a stern warning that it may mobilise workers across the country for a nationwide protest as frustrations mount over persistent security failures. Speaking at the opening of the National Executive Council meeting in Lagos, NLC President Joe Ajaero declared that the union would not stand by while criminal gangs continue to terrorise communities.

Ajaero described the nation as being “under siege,” citing the recent school kidnapping and the alleged withdrawal of security personnel shortly before the attack as alarming indicators of systemic lapses. He called for a thorough investigation to determine whether internal compromise or negligence contributed to the attack, insisting that Nigerians deserve transparency and accountability.

The union announced plans to declare a national day of mourning while preparing to mobilise workers for mass demonstrations if immediate steps are not taken to restore public safety. Ajaero stressed that continued silence would be irresponsible at a time when families, schools and communities are living in fear.
