Abuja – Niger Delta activist Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo has issued a sharp warning to those he accuses of spreading false and inflammatory narratives about Nigeria, particularly claims of an ongoing “Christian genocide” in the country. In a recent video statement, Dokubo directly addressed clergyman Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, who has repeatedly alleged that Christians in Nigeria are being systematically targeted, and criticised what he described as foreign commentary on Nigeria’s internal affairs, including remarks reportedly attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting an “invasion” of the country in response to the alleged persecution.
In the video, Dokubo described such pronouncements as dangerous, saying they have the potential to escalate tensions and worsen Nigeria’s already fragile security situation. He emphasised that the propagation of false narratives about religious persecution undermines the country’s sovereignty and distorts both domestic and international understanding of Nigeria’s complex security challenges. Dokubo declared, “The pronouncement of President Donald Trump about invading Nigeria has triggered more problems in the country. Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo has been making claims, saying there is a Christian genocide in Nigeria. If I place a curse on him — and I swear to God who made me — he will not last 24 hours.”
Dokubo argued that the security issues in Nigeria are deeply rooted in multiple factors, including communal conflicts, banditry, resource disputes, and political rivalries, rather than being solely motivated by religious persecution. According to him, exaggerating or misrepresenting attacks as religiously motivated not only inflames tensions among communities but also provides foreign actors with distorted narratives that could provoke unnecessary intervention in the country’s internal affairs.
Observers note that Nigeria’s religious and ethnic diversity makes the nation particularly vulnerable to the politicisation of attacks or crises.
