The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. Soldiers from the Army’s 8 Division, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, acted on credible intelligence that a group of terrorists was moving towards Tara Village with intent to mount an attack. They executed a precisely coordinated ambush at approximately 06:45 a.m. as the group attempted to cross a known route.

According to the military, all 11 militants were “neutralised on the spot” after being caught off-guard. The troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles, five extra magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from the scene. Some of the insurgents reportedly fled with gunshot wounds.

The command described the strike as “swift, surgical and professionally executed,” emphasising that the intervention prevented what would likely have been a violent assault on civilians and dealt a heavy blow to terrorist networks operating along the Sabon Birni corridor.

This ambush comes amid an intensified campaign by the Army across north-western Nigeria. Recent operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have resulted in multiple neutralisations of terrorists and bandits, dismantling of hideouts, and the seizure of arms.

The government of Sokoto State has welcomed the outcome, with the security adviser to the governor praising the troops’ promptness and professionalism, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding communities in vulnerable areas.

Despite the success, security officials have warned residents to remain vigilant, acknowledging that surviving militants may attempt to regroup, rearm, or carry out retaliatory attacks. Follow-up clearance operations have been launched to track down any remaining hostile elements and prevent resurgence.

The operation underscores growing military pressure on organised armed groups in the region and signals determination to restore stability under ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. 📩 Stone Reporters News | 🌍 stonereportersnews.com
