Tragedy in Nsukka: Enugu Security Guard Arrested for Cousin’s Murder

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested and arraigned 51-year-old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, a member of a local Neighbourhood Security Watch Group, for the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, in Nsukka, in a case that has shocked the community.

The suspect was taken into custody on 1st December 2025, following a violent assault on the deceased, which resulted in injuries that led to her death. The Enugu State Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, personally directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) to conduct a meticulous and expedited investigation, emphasizing the need for swift justice.

After a thorough probe, the police arraigned Emeka Nwangwu today before the Enugu State Magistrate Court on a one-count charge of murder. The court ordered that he be remanded in custody and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), for further legal advice.

In a statement, CP Giwa expressed condolences to the family, stating:
"We mourn with the family and friends of the deceased. While no words can undo their loss, let them find some comfort in knowing that justice is already in motion. Our detectives have completed their investigation, and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly."

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, added that the Command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes face the full force of the law. He further urged residents to report suspicious activities to the police, noting that community cooperation is critical in maintaining law and order.

Residents of Nsukka expressed shock at the incident, describing the alleged crime as both tragic and alarming. One neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said:
"It is heartbreaking. We never expected something like this to happen within a family. We pray that justice will be served swiftly."

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the safety of vulnerable individuals, even within families. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring public safety, particularly in local communities where trust in law enforcement is critical.
