The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned industrialist and philanthropist, Chief (Prince) Tunde Ponle, describing his passing as “the exit of a giant” and a profound loss to Osun State and Nigeria at large.

In a condolence message released on Sunday, Governor Adeleke said the demise of Chief Ponle was painful beyond what words could adequately convey, noting that the late business icon made exceptional and far-reaching contributions to economic development, education, healthcare, and community growth within Osun State and beyond.

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended family of the deceased, as well as his associates and admirers, stating that Chief Ponle, the Chief Executive Officer of MicCom Cables and Wires, lived a life marked by remarkable accomplishments and enduring service to humanity. According to the governor, his legacy of positively impacting society would not be forgotten easily.

Governor Adeleke described the late Prince Ponle as a model citizen whose influence went beyond business success. He said the industrialist consistently deployed his intellect, resources, and God-given abilities to address societal challenges and improve the quality of life for many people.

“I am visibly shaken to learn about the passing of Chief (Prince) Tunde Laoye. While alive, Prince Ponle was a model of a good citizen, contributing not just his intellect but his God-given ability to solve some of society’s challenges,” the governor said.

Highlighting some of the deceased’s key contributions, Governor Adeleke noted that Chief Ponle’s investments and philanthropic gestures had left a lasting imprint on Osun State. He pointed to the MicCom Golf Recreation Centre in Ada as a major economic driver that created jobs and boosted local economic activity. The governor also referenced the industrialist’s significant support for education and healthcare, particularly at Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

According to the governor, Chief Ponle’s multi-million-naira building donation to UNIOSUN, as well as the MicCom Cancer Centre he funded, continue to play critical roles in strengthening the institution’s academic and medical capacity. He said these projects stand as enduring symbols of the late philanthropist’s commitment to human development and social responsibility.

“Prince Ponle’s generosity was felt at the Osun State University, where his multi-million building and the MicCom Cancer Centre donations continue to serve the institution. His passing, though at the age of 94, is devastating, and this is because Osun has lost one of its best,” Governor Adeleke said.

The governor described the late Chief Ponle as a man whose life exemplified selfless service, innovation, and dedication to community upliftment. He noted that beyond his business achievements, Prince Ponle was widely respected for his humility, compassion, and willingness to invest in initiatives that benefited the wider society.

On behalf of the government and people of Osun State, Governor Adeleke conveyed his condolences to the deceased’s wife, Her Excellency Chief Mrs. Titi Laoye-Ponle, his children, and the entire Ponle family. He also sympathised with all individuals and institutions touched by the life and works of the late industrialist.

The governor offered prayers for the repose of Chief Ponle’s soul, asking Almighty God to grant him eternal rest and a place in paradise. He also prayed for divine strength and comfort for the family and loved ones left behind, urging them to find solace in the impactful life and legacy of the departed elder statesman.

Chief (Prince) Tunde Ponle was widely regarded as one of Osun State’s most distinguished industrialists and philanthropists. Over several decades, he built a reputation for excellence in manufacturing while also committing substantial resources to education, healthcare, sports, and community development. His death marks the end of an era for many who benefited directly and indirectly from his vision and generosity.

The condolence message was signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor.
