Abagana, Anambra State — In a targeted offensive security operation, operatives of the Anambra State Police Command successfully disrupted a suspected criminal cell on Tuesday, recovering cash, firearms and a vehicle after suspects attempting to evade arrest abandoned their conveyance following a high‑speed pursuit. The breakthrough highlights the ongoing push by security forces to deny criminals freedom of movement and curb violent activities across the state as community safety remains a priority for law enforcement.

The operation was conducted by officers attached to the Commissioner of Police’s Special Patrol Team at about 5:00 p.m. on December 16, 2025, in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area. According to the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the patrol was part of proactive measures to flush out armed robbery and other violent offenders. Acting on actionable intelligence, police attempted to intercept a suspicious ash‑coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number UWN 680 PE

As officers closed in, those inside the vehicle attempted to flee, leading to a dramatic chase that ended with the vehicle crashing and being abandoned by the suspects. During the subsequent search of the scene and the vehicle, police recovered ₦636,700 in suspected stolen cash, believed to be proceeds of criminal activity, as well as a pump‑action rifle, a locally fabricated single‑barrel rifle, and other incriminating items.

Although the suspects managed to escape on foot following the crash, authorities have intensified intelligence‑led tracking operations aimed at identifying and apprehending them. The police emphasized that the recovered exhibits have been secured for further forensic and investigative processes.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing and safeguarding lives and property across communities. In his statement, SP Ikenga affirmed that such targeted operations are part of broader efforts to maintain law and order, particularly as criminal elements attempt to exploit reduced visibility and increased movement during the holiday period.

Residents welcomed the swift response by security forces, expressing hope that the intensified patrols and tracking efforts would lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects and reduce crime in the state. Police have urged members of the public to assist by reporting suspicious activities and providing information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The recovered cash, firearms, and vehicle are now subject to detailed analysis as part of the police command’s effort to establish connections between the suspects and other criminal networks operating in the region. As the investigation proceeds, security officials have reiterated that joint community cooperation and sustained enforcement action are critical to keeping criminals at bay and ensuring public safety.
