Troops deployed under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully repelled an early-morning attempt by terrorists to infiltrate Bitta from the Mandara Mountains, delivering a significant setback to insurgent operations in the North East. The operation, conducted at around 0030 hours on 18 December 2025, saw Nigerian forces employing advanced surveillance systems to detect and track the movements of the attacking group before engaging them in a strategically coordinated defensive operation.

Military sources confirmed that the engagement resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists, including a key commander and his cameraman, who were identified as central figures in ongoing insurgent activities. Troops exercised tactical restraint, allowing the attackers to advance into optimal engagement range, after which coordinated defensive fire effectively decimated the forward elements of the assaulting force.

As the remaining insurgents attempted to withdraw, precision strikes carried out by the Air Component of OPHK disrupted their retreat and further reduced their operational capability. Following the clash, troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the area, recovering a large cache of equipment and logistical items used by the terrorists. Confiscated items included AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, ammunition belts, magazines, mobile phones, motorcycles, bicycles, handheld radios, and a camcorder used for recording insurgent activities.

Further investigation at the site revealed multiple blood trails and shallow graves, indicating additional casualties among the terrorists inflicted during the engagement and subsequent air strikes. This outcome underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven, coordinated operations combining ground and aerial assets to neutralise threats and deny insurgents freedom of action.

Troop morale and operational readiness remain high, with commanders emphasising continued vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard communities and infrastructure within the area of responsibility. Officials reiterated the commitment of OPHK personnel to decisively defeat terrorist elements and restore lasting peace and security across the North East region.

The successful operation highlights ongoing efforts by the Joint Task Force and allied units to sustain pressure on insurgent networks, disrupt their logistical support, and prevent infiltration into civilian settlements, reinforcing the resolve of Nigerian forces to restore stability in affected regions.
