KATSINA, Nigeria — Nigerian troops have successfully thwarted a bandit attack and rescued a civilian during a swift security operation in Unguwan Dogo community, located near the Kano–Katsina border in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources confirmed that the soldiers responded promptly after receiving intelligence about the movement of armed bandits in the area. Upon arrival, the troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandoning their mission. In the process, one civilian who had been held by the bandits was rescued alive.
The rescued victim was immediately secured by the troops and later handed over for medical evaluation and further support. No casualties were reported among the soldiers during the operation.
Residents of Unguwan Dogo described the intervention as timely, noting that the community has faced persistent threats from bandit groups exploiting border areas between Kano and Katsina states. The successful operation has brought a measure of relief and renewed confidence among locals who have long called for sustained security presence.
The action underscores the Nigerian military’s continued efforts to curb banditry, particularly in volatile border communities where criminals often exploit difficult terrain and porous boundaries to carry out attacks.
Commendations have poured in for the troops for their swift response, courage, and commitment to protecting civilian lives and safeguarding vulnerable communities, as security forces intensify operations to dismantle criminal networks across the region.
