Kano, Nigeria — Armed bandits have reportedly carried out coordinated attacks in Nasarawa Mainika ward and Kwantara community within Gwarzo Local Government Area, leaving residents in fear and prompting concerns about escalating insecurity in rural Kano State.

According to local sources, the attackers raided a private residence in Nasarawa Mainika ward late on the night of December 31, 2025, and abducted Alhaji Dan-Baba Nasarawa, father of former ward councillor Hon. Anas Abdu (Alhaji). Eyewitnesses say the assailants stormed the home violently before forcibly taking the elderly man, who remains in captivity as authorities begin investigations.

In a related attack in Kwantara community, the bandits allegedly shot one resident, while another individual was abducted. Local residents report growing fear as violent incidents appear to be spreading across surrounding villages, disrupting daily life and prompting some families to flee their homes.

Community members have appealed to security agencies for urgent intervention, emphasizing the need for increased patrols, rapid response teams, and intelligence-led operations to prevent further kidnappings and attacks. Residents describe the bandits as heavily armed and highly mobile, capable of striking multiple communities in a single night.

The Gwarzo LGA has in recent months seen a resurgence of banditry, reflecting a wider pattern of insecurity across rural areas in northern Nigeria, where abductions, killings, and cattle rustling have become increasingly frequent. Analysts say the attacks are often opportunistic, targeting wealthy families, political figures, and isolated communities.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement confirming the incidents or detailing ongoing rescue efforts. Meanwhile, residents continue to call for coordinated action to protect vulnerable communities and ensure the safe return of abducted individuals, including Alhaji Dan-Baba Nasarawa.

The latest attacks underline the urgent need for comprehensive security measures, including community engagement, strengthened policing, and proactive intelligence gathering, to curb the rising wave of banditry in Kano State and across northern Nigeria.
