Security forces of the Nigeria Police Force have successfully thwarted an imminent attack and mass kidnapping plot in the Kasuwan Magani area of Kaduna State, rescuing seventy‑six children in an intelligence‑led operation that unfolded on the evening of January 5, 2026.

According to a statement released from Force Headquarters in Abuja by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, the Kaduna State Police Command received verified intelligence that suspected bandits were preparing to ambush motorists conveying children through the Kasuwan Magani corridor. Acting on the credible information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Kasuwan Magani Division immediately mobilised a team of police operatives to the area to confront the threat and prevent a possible tragedy.

Upon arrival at the scene that night, police officers engaged the suspected attackers and successfully repelled their planned assault. As a direct result of the swift engagement, seventy‑six children — both boys and girls ranging in age from seven to twenty years — were found in the vicinity and rescued unharmed. The operation prevented a mass abduction and potential human trafficking incident that could have had devastating consequences for the families involved and the wider community.

During the course of the operation, three suspects were apprehended and taken into custody. Preliminary investigations by the police have indicated that the three individuals were in the process of conveying the children with the intent of transporting them to other parts of the country for purposes described as child labour and domestic work. The officers are currently being held for further questioning as the force seeks to uncover the full extent of their motivations and any possible networks that may be involved.

While the rescued children were transported to the Kaduna State Police Command Headquarters for safety and medical assessment, efforts are ongoing to ensure they are properly identified and reunited with their parents or guardians. Police sources emphasised that the well‑being of the minors remains a paramount concern, and appropriate care is being provided as part of the reunification process.

Investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted criminal activity, including identifying any collaborators or broader criminal enterprises linked to the suspects. Upon the conclusion of this investigative phase, the suspects are expected to face formal charges in court for their alleged actions.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the nation, highlighting that timely community information and proactive policing were decisive in averting a potential abduction crisis. CSP Hundeyin urged residents to maintain collaboration with law enforcement by providing timely and credible information that can facilitate proactive intervention and help safeguard vulnerable citizens, especially children.

The successful operation in Kasuwan Magani underscores the critical role of intelligence‑driven policing in confronting evolving criminal threats. It also points to the importance of community‑security partnerships in ensuring early detection of planned attacks and swift mobilisation of response teams. In regions where abductions and organised criminal activity pose ongoing risks, strengthening community engagement and information channels remains a key strategy in disrupting violent plans before they materialise.

As Kaduna State and the wider region continue to grapple with security challenges, incidents such as this rescue offer a reminder that coordinated efforts between citizens and security agencies can yield significant, lifesaving results. The police have affirmed that they will continue to pursue justice for the victims and hold perpetrators accountable under the law, reinforcing the rule of law and the protection of vulnerable populations.
