Troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt along the Abuja–Kaduna highway on Tuesday, preventing harm to travellers on one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors. The development highlights ongoing efforts by military forces to secure strategic road networks against criminal attacks.

According to official reports, the incident unfolded at about 2:00 p.m. near Nasarawan Doka following a distress call about an ongoing robbery operation. Army personnel mobilised immediately to the scene and engaged the suspected armed robbers before they could carry out the planned attack.

During the confrontation, troops succeeded in neutralising the threat and arresting one member of the criminal gang, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg amid the exchange. Zayyanu was evacuated to Doka General Hospital, where he received first-aid treatment before being taken into custody for further investigation.

Other gang members reportedly fled into nearby bushes when confronted by the soldiers, prompting a hot pursuit, though no additional arrests were made. The operation was described as successful in part because no motorists were abducted or harmed during the encounter, and commuters were able to continue their journeys once order was restored.

Military sources said the arrested suspect will be handed over to the appropriate security agency after the preliminary investigations are completed. They emphasised that no casualties or abductions were recorded during the operation and that the security situation along the highway remained calm following the incident.

Officials further reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property along key national highways, which have long been vulnerable to armed robberies and criminal ambushes. They urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies to enable prompt intervention and disruption of criminal plans.

The swift action by the troops reflects ongoing efforts by Nigeria’s security forces to enhance safety along major transportation routes and protect civilians from violent crime as part of broader counter-security operations across the country.
