In a disturbing incident in Ille-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, a 53-year-old woman, identified as Madam Maria, and her 28-year-old son, Adewale, have been arrested by police on allegations of attempting to use a neighbourhood child in a money ritual plot.

According to law enforcement sources, the suspects were intercepted while en route to meet a herbalist with the intention of using an unsuspecting 10-year-old boy in a ritual believed to be aimed at obtaining spiritual wealth. The arrest followed a tip-off from concerned residents, who noticed suspicious behaviour and swiftly alerted the police.

Responding to the information, officers deployed to the area were able to rescue the child unharmed before the ritual could be carried out. The boy was safely reunited with his family after being medically checked, while Madam Maria and her son were taken into custody for further investigation.

The police confirmed that the suspects will be questioned thoroughly to determine the full extent of the alleged plan and whether others may have been involved or complicit in the offence. Authorities have emphasised that using children for ritual purposes is a serious crime and urged community members to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities.

Incidents involving ritualistic exploitation represent a broader concern in parts of Nigeria, drawing attention to the need for strong community policing, public awareness, and effective law enforcement responses to protect vulnerable children and deter criminal networks that may target them.

The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects are expected to face charges in court upon completion of police inquiries.
