LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has announced the temporary closure of all public parks under its management across the state to facilitate routine maintenance and upgrade works. The agency stated that the parks will be inaccessible to the public from January 12 to January 31, 2026, following a period of heightened usage during the recent festive season.

The closure will affect popular recreational centres, including Ndubisi Kanu Park, Alausa JJT Park, Dr. Finnih Abayomi Park, Oregun, and all other parks managed by LASPARK statewide. The agency explained that the temporary shutdown is necessary to carry out essential landscaping, facility repairs, and general upgrades aimed at maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall enjoyment of these public spaces.

LASPARK emphasized that the exercise is part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring that Lagos residents and visitors have access to well-maintained green spaces that foster relaxation, wellness, and environmental sustainability. The agency urged park users to plan accordingly and assured the public that the maintenance work would improve the quality and accessibility of the parks once the exercise is completed.

Officials highlighted that such routine maintenance is crucial for addressing wear and tear, enhancing visitor experience, and sustaining the ecological health of Lagos’ urban green areas, which have become increasingly important as centers for leisure and outdoor activities.

Residents are encouraged to monitor LASPARK’s official communications for updates on the progress of the maintenance activities and the reopening schedule. The agency also noted that while parks are closed, alternative recreational and leisure activities could be explored across the city’s community spaces.
