Port Harcourt, Nigeria — His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, on Monday joined top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the inaugural meeting of the party’s Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation, an initiative designed to address internal disputes and emerging challenges within the ruling party.

The committee, chaired by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, brings together a broad cross-section of APC leadership, including governors from Kwara, Imo, Benue, Kaduna, Jigawa, Cross River, Ekiti, and Delta states. Specifically, the panel features Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Hope Uzodimma, Hyacinth Alia, Uba Sani, Umar Namadi, Bassey Otu, Abiodun Oyebanji, and Sheriff Oborevwori.

Prominent national figures are also part of the committee, including Senator Adamu Aliero, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. Additionally, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, and Muiz Banire (SAN), serving as Secretary, contribute to the leadership and coordination of the panel.

The committee was inaugurated last December, with Governor Buni emphasizing its mission to deploy strategic engagement and wide consultations to foster inclusive and sustainable solutions that strengthen unity within the party. According to Buni, the committee is particularly focused on integrating both longstanding members and newer entrants who may feel marginalised or aggrieved, providing them with a renewed sense of belonging.

Governor Buni also stressed that the committee would adopt proactive measures to preempt potential threats to party cohesion, encouraging members to prioritise collective interests over personal ambitions or sentiments that could undermine unity. The initiative is seen as a strategic effort by the APC to consolidate its internal structures and maintain cohesion amid rising political pressures and competition ahead of future elections.

Governor Fubara’s participation underscores Rivers State’s active engagement in national party matters and reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening party structures, promoting dialogue, and supporting mechanisms that encourage conflict resolution and strategic mobilisation within the APC.

Observers note that the formation and active operation of such a high-level committee is part of a broader trend within Nigerian political parties to institutionalise conflict management mechanisms, particularly in ruling parties facing both internal rivalries and external political challenges. By bringing together governors, ministers, legislators, and senior party operatives, the APC aims to ensure that decision-making processes are inclusive, consultative, and geared towards sustaining party unity.

The committee’s ongoing work is expected to include strategic consultations, engagement with aggrieved members, conflict mapping, and proactive intervention in emerging disputes, measures intended to secure party cohesion in the lead-up to critical electoral cycles.
