Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the son of former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned his appointment as Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and member of the Kano State Executive Council under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The resignation was announced on Monday in a statement personally signed by Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso and made public in Kano. In the statement, he described his decision as a difficult one, expressing appreciation to the state governor for the opportunity to serve.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Member of the Kano State Executive Council,” the statement read.

He conveyed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for entrusting him with the role, noting that his time in office provided valuable experiences and lessons in public service. According to him, serving the people of Kano State, particularly in a sector focused on youth and sports development, was both an honour and a responsibility he deeply valued.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he said.

While he did not disclose specific reasons for his resignation, Mustapha Kwankwaso expressed optimism about the future of youth empowerment and sports development in the state. He offered prayers for continued government support for young people and the sustainability of programmes initiated under the ministry.

“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve. I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come,” he stated.

His resignation marks a notable development within the Kano State administration, given his political background and family ties to one of the state’s most influential political figures. Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains a dominant force in Kano politics and a key national figure within the NNPP.

As of the time of reporting, the Kano State Government has not issued an official statement reacting to the resignation or announcing a replacement. Political observers say the development may trigger further discussions within the state’s political landscape, particularly regarding governance dynamics and succession within the executive council.
