Armed bandits on Tuesday night stormed a private residence in the Tukanawa area of Mada town, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting a prominent resident, Alhaji Ali, popularly known as Ali Babureshi, and his wife.
Residents said the attackers struck late at night, overpowering the occupants of the house before whisking the couple away to an unknown location. The operation was described as swift and coordinated, leaving the neighbourhood in fear and confusion.
The latest abduction comes only days after children earlier kidnapped from Mada town were released, raising fresh concerns about the persistence of insecurity in the area despite recent security interventions. Community members expressed shock that another attack could occur so soon after what many had hoped signalled an easing of violence.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the Zamfara State Police Command regarding the incident. Security sources, however, confirmed that efforts were underway to track the assailants and secure the release of the victims.
Zamfara State has remained one of the epicentres of banditry in Nigeria’s North-West, with residents frequently targeted for abduction, often for ransom. Local leaders have repeatedly called for sustained military operations, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger community policing to stem the attacks.
The abduction of Alhaji Ali and his wife has heightened anxiety in Mada town, with residents urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in security arrangements across Gusau and surrounding communities.
