In Kaduna, authorities at the Medium Security Custodial Center apprehended a prison visitor attempting to smuggle hard drugs into the facility. The individual was caught while trying to deliver a Red-oil container filled with palm oil, inside which the prohibited substances were concealed.
Prison officials immediately detained the suspect, and preliminary investigations confirmed the presence of illicit drugs within the container. The visitor was formally arrested and will be handed over to the relevant law enforcement and regulatory agencies for prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law.
The Kaduna prison administration emphasized that such incidents pose significant security risks to inmates and staff and reiterated its commitment to rigorous screening procedures to prevent contraband from entering correctional facilities. Authorities also warned that anyone attempting to smuggle prohibited substances into prisons would face strict legal consequences.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining prison security and underscores the need for vigilance among visitors, staff, and law enforcement to curb the inflow of illegal substances into custodial centers.
