Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State — Nigerian police have arrested a 47-year-old man identified as Kazeem Adebayo following the discovery of the body of his 30-year-old partner, Abosede Adesanya, inside his residence in Ijebu-Igbo. The arrest followed an intensive investigation after Adesanya’s family reported her missing when she failed to return home with money intended for the purchase of land in her mother’s name.
According to Ogun State Police Command, Adesanya — a mother of five — had visited Adebayo on January 24, 2026, carrying ₦530,000 from the sale of land her 84-year-old mother, Amoke, had recently completed for the purpose of buying new property. Adebayo had been involved in the land transaction and had offered to assist the women in finding another site.
When she did not return home that evening and her phone could not be reached, her mother lodged a missing person report at the Ijebu-Igbo divisional police headquarters the following day. Investigators subsequently invited Adebayo for questioning, but he initially denied any knowledge of her whereabouts.
Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department later conducted a thorough search of Adebayo’s home, where they uncovered a shallow grave within the premises. Upon excavation, the decomposing body of Abosede was found, triggering heightened investigative scrutiny.
Adebayo reportedly confessed to killing Adesanya after she arrived at his house. Police say he struck her on the head with a heavy object, causing fatal injuries. In an effort to conceal the crime, he buried her body in a shallow grave inside his room. During interrogation, Adebayo admitted he had taken possession of the ₦530,000 she brought, using ₦30,000 to settle an outstanding debt and hiding the rest of the money elsewhere.
The state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the victim’s remains have been taken to a mortuary for post-mortem examination, and that the Commissioner of Police has directed the SCIID to expedite investigation and prepare charges for prosecution.
The arrest and discovery of a victim’s body buried in a suspect’s residence underline ongoing concerns in Nigeria over personal security, exploitative relationships and violent crime. The case has drawn attention to the vulnerabilities faced by women, especially in informal transactional relationships, and has reignited calls by advocacy groups for stronger legal protections and community awareness initiatives.
Authorities have urged members of the public with additional information related to this or similar cases to cooperate with law enforcement and assist in ongoing investigations aimed at preventing such tragedies.
