The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, received Hon. Mohammed Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, along with a delegation of his supporters from Doma Local Government Area, at the Government House on Wednesday.

Hon. Oyanki, who represents Doma North under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the visit. The decision comes amid heightened political activity in the state ahead of forthcoming local and state elections.

Governor Sule welcomed Oyanki and the group into the ruling party, underscoring the APC’s official stance on inclusive governance and party cohesion as part of its broader developmental focus. In remarks to journalists, the governor highlighted the APC’s efforts to consolidate a unified political front across Nasarawa State and to ensure broader representation of diverse constituencies within the party framework.

The defection of the Deputy Speaker — a key legislative figure — is viewed as a significant political development in Nasarawa’s evolving landscape. Political observers note that Oyanki’s move to the APC reinforces the party’s position in areas historically considered strongholds of the PDP, including segments of Doma Local Government Area.

Supporters of Hon. Oyanki in attendance described the party switch as a reflection of shifting grassroots preferences and alignment with what they termed APC’s progressive policies and governance track record under Governor Sule’s administration.

The PDP has not yet issued an official response to the defection. Meanwhile, political analysts say the realignment could influence strategic positioning by major parties as they prepare for upcoming electoral contests at the local and state levels.
