SAGAMU, Nigeria — The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect identified as Gafaru Rasaki for allegedly being in possession of four human heads in the Sagamu area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi. According to the police, operatives of the Shakura Division apprehended the suspect on January 21, 2026, following intelligence that led to his interception.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Rasaki was found with four human heads. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to unlawfully exhuming the remains from a cemetery. Police authorities described the act as a grave offence, noting that it constitutes both criminal misconduct and a violation of the dignity of the deceased.
The spokesperson stated that after thorough questioning and investigation, the recovered exhibits were secured as evidence. The suspect was subsequently charged to court following the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
While the police did not disclose further details regarding motive, such cases often trigger public concern over ritual-related crimes, which have periodically been reported in parts of the country. Authorities, however, have not indicated any broader criminal network in connection with the arrest.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to investigating the matter fully and ensuring that due legal process is followed. Residents have been urged to remain calm and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents.
The case is now before the court for adjudication.
