The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly is moving toward a final resolution following presidential mediation by President Bola Tinubu. Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview with journalists in Abuja after inspecting ongoing road infrastructure projects in the FCT.
Wike described President Tinubu’s involvement as pivotal in brokering peace between the warring factions, noting that the president’s role was akin to that of a “father of the nation” stepping in to resolve internal disputes. He said the intervention had restored optimism that the discord would not recur and expressed confidence that both the Rivers State governor and the state assembly would abide by the agreements reached during the mediation process.
The minister emphasised that Tinubu’s continued diplomatic engagement had been instrumental in steering the crisis toward closure, and he expressed hope that this would be the last time such a political rift would trouble the state. Wike’s remarks reflect a broader narrative among federal officials that the stalemate, which had drawn national attention and repeated calls for resolution, is now on a trajectory toward sustainable peace under presidential guidance.
Governor Fubara has also signalled willingness to uphold the outcomes of the mediated discussions and committed to fulfilling his responsibilities toward ensuring lasting stability and development for Rivers State residents.
Observers say the development could ease political tensions in one of Nigeria’s most economically significant states and allow leadership to refocus on governance and service delivery after months of discord that had affected both legislative functions and public perception of state administration.
