Katsina, Nigeria — The Katsina State Police Command has intensified security in Maidabino Village, Danmusa Local Government Area, following credible intelligence that armed bandits were planning an attack on the community. This proactive measure aims to protect residents and prevent potential violence in a region that has experienced repeated insecurity.

According to security sources, the threat was linked to bandits believed to be operating between Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State and the Yarmalamai area of Faskari LGA in Katsina State. These armed groups are reportedly loyal to the notorious militant leader Ado Aliero, who has commanded several raids and criminal operations across northwestern Nigeria.

In response to the intelligence, the Katsina State Police Command convened an emergency meeting with senior commanders, tactical units, and divisional officers to coordinate a preemptive security plan. Officers were instructed to enhance intelligence gathering, increase patrols, and cooperate closely with other security agencies to ensure the planned attack could be disrupted.

Reinforcements were deployed from neighbouring divisions, including Dutsinma, Safana, Kurfi, and Matazu, and five armoured personnel carriers were placed on standby. Patrols were stepped up along key routes, and checkpoints were established to monitor movements into and out of vulnerable communities. The police emphasized that the increased presence is intended to deter potential attacks and reassure residents, rather than respond after violence occurs.

Maidabino and surrounding areas lie within a broader region affected by banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and attacks on civilians. Katsina and neighbouring states such as Zamfara and Sokoto have faced repeated incursions by armed groups, leading to displacement of residents, destruction of property, and disruption of livelihoods.

Ado Aliero, also known as Adamu Aliero, is a key figure associated with these operations, commanding armed groups that move flexibly between forest hideouts and border areas. His networks exploit the difficult terrain and weak security presence, enabling hit-and-run attacks on rural communities. Despite previous attempts at dialogue and limited security responses, his groups have continued to pose significant threats to safety in the region.

The Katsina State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security personnel. Authorities also highlighted the importance of long-term strategies, including collaboration among security agencies, better intelligence, and engagement with local communities to prevent future attacks.

Community leaders in Maidabino welcomed the reinforced security presence, noting that proactive measures provide reassurance and help reduce fear among residents. Farmers, traders, and villagers have expressed hope that continued vigilance and coordination with security forces will make the area safer and allow normal activities to resume.

As police operations continue, the focus remains on preventing armed bandits from carrying out the planned attack, safeguarding lives and property, and restoring stability to communities that have long lived under the threat of violence.
