The Cross River State Government has announced the cancellation of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise that was scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026. This measure is aimed at ensuring that candidates and officials participating in the 2026 JAMB Mock Examination can move freely to their designated examination centres without restriction.
Officials confirmed that there will be no limitations on human or vehicular movement on that date. The temporary suspension of the sanitation exercise reflects the government’s commitment to supporting students and educational staff during a critical national academic assessment.
Typically, monthly sanitation exercises involve coordinated community cleanup and, at times, movement restrictions to encourage participation. Similar cancellations have occurred in the past, including during national examinations, to allow candidates unhindered access to examination venues. The regular sanitation schedule is set to resume in April 2026.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings despite the temporary pause. The government emphasised that environmental hygiene remains a priority even in the absence of formal enforcement for the designated Saturday.
Cross River State continues to promote public health and sanitation, with recent legislative efforts aimed at prohibiting open defecation and improving waste management across urban and rural communities. These initiatives are part of a broader plan to foster a culture of cleanliness, reduce the risk of water-borne diseases, and support sustainable public health outcomes.
Authorities have also highlighted the importance of balancing environmental policies with educational priorities, ensuring that critical national examinations proceed smoothly without interference from regulatory activities. Government monitoring during the mock examination period will focus on traffic and crowd management to facilitate seamless movement for candidates and functionaries.
The announcement demonstrates the state’s flexible approach to policy implementation, prioritising both public health and educational advancement, and underscores the ongoing importance of environmental cleanliness for the well-being of residents.
