The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of annual personal income tax returns for the 2025 year of assessment. The new deadline for submissions is now April 17, 2026, following a public notice issued on April 1, 2026, and signed by Executive Chairman Sir Israel O. Egbunefu.

The extension is intended to provide taxpayers with additional time to meet their obligations, particularly individuals and businesses who have not yet filed. All taxable persons, including employees in both public and private sectors, self-employed individuals, business owners, and professionals, are expected to take advantage of the revised deadline in compliance with the Nigeria Tax Administration Act.

RIRS has directed taxpayers to submit their returns through official digital platforms. Returns can be completed via the main RIRS portal or the tax management system, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. The Service also provides email support for taxpayers seeking assistance.

While the extension provides temporary relief, RIRS has warned that failure to comply by April 17 may attract penalties as stipulated by law. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to assisting taxpayers, urging residents to seek guidance through its offices or official communication channels to ensure proper filing.

This initiative reflects RIRS’s broader goal of improving tax compliance and boosting internally generated revenue, which is vital for funding development projects and public services across Rivers State.
