Jerusalem — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu marked Easter Sunday by expressing solidarity with Christian communities worldwide, drawing attention to their persecution in several countries and reaffirming Israel’s commitment to religious freedom. In a statement shared through official channels and social media, Netanyahu described Easter as a moment for reflection, renewal, and the defense of faith.
In his address, Netanyahu extended warm greetings to Christians in Israel, the United States, and beyond, noting that followers of Christ face persecution in countries including Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Turkey. Netanyahu’s comments also reflected ongoing attention to violence against Christians abroad. In Nigeria, extremist attacks have disproportionately affected Christian communities in central and northern regions, resulting in deaths, displacement, and destruction of churches.
