The Bauchi State Police Command in Nigeria has arrested two suspects in connection with a burglary that led to the theft of goods valued at approximately N1.2 million. The arrests follow investigations triggered by the break‑in at a commercial shop in the state, as police intensified efforts to recover the stolen items and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, operatives responded promptly after being alerted to the burglary. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and other specialized units conducted surveillance and gathered intelligence that ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the two suspects. The burglary involved forced entry into the business premises under cover of night, with the suspects removing various merchandise before fleeing the scene.
Police confirmed that the stolen goods, collectively worth about N1.2 million, have been recovered and secured as part of evidence in the ongoing investigation. The nature of the recovered items was not fully disclosed, but they are understood to be of significant value to the business owner.
The suspects are currently assisting investigators in determining the full scope of their involvement and whether they acted alone or were part of a larger criminal network. Authorities indicated that additional arrests could follow as the investigation continues.
Community members and business owners welcomed the arrests, noting that property crimes have caused significant distress and financial loss. Residents emphasised the importance of sustained police presence and patrolling to prevent future burglaries. Many said that the swift action of the police sends a clear message that criminal activities will not go unchecked.
The Bauchi State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. Authorities urged residents to report any suspicious activities and provide information that could help law enforcement prevent and respond to crimes. Community cooperation was highlighted as a key factor in deterring criminal networks and ensuring public safety.
Following the completion of preliminary investigations, the two suspects are expected to be charged in a magistrate’s court with offences including burglary, theft, and conspiracy under relevant sections of the criminal code applicable in Bauchi State.
Police also assured the public that recovered property will be returned to its rightful owners once the legal process is completed. The command continues to enhance intelligence‑led operations, visibility policing, and crime prevention strategies across the state to safeguard communities and deter similar incidents in the future.
