Abuja — The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has formally opened its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified professionals from its 15 member states, including Nigeria, to apply for a broad range of job vacancies across several key regional institutions and agencies. The recruitment initiative, announced through official ECOWAS channels and various member‑state media outlets, reflects the bloc’s effort to strengthen its organisational capacity in governance, policy implementation, regional integration and administrative functions.
The recruitment drive covers more than 30 roles available at the ECOWAS Commission, headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, as well as positions within specialised bodies such as the ECOWAS Parliament, the Community Court of Justice, the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA). Candidates are being sought for both technical and administrative posts, with vacancies spanning sectors such as administration, finance, human resources, trade, legal affairs, peace and security, health, telecommunications and policy planning.

Positions range from general services and protocol support roles based in Abuja to senior professional appointments such as Political Advisor roles located in Dakar, Senegal. In Abuja, positions like Protocol Assistant are designed to provide daily support for high‑level meetings and engagements, focusing on administrative coordination, event logistics and protocol services within the ECOWAS Commission’s Protocol Department. Other advertised roles include Administrative and Finance Officer at the ECOWAS Permanent Representation to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Principal Legal Officer positions with substantive legal responsibilities, and Regional Security Programme Officer duties that centre on developing and coordinating peace and security frameworks across the sub‑region.
Applicants are required to hold appropriate academic qualifications and relevant professional experience commensurate with the grade level of the position. The recruitment notice specifies that many roles will require candidates to demonstrate substantive experience in areas such as policy research, diplomatic engagement, legal drafting, economic planning, programme management and regional cooperation. Some senior roles also call for advanced degrees or specialised certificates relevant to the functions to be performed.
The deadline for submitting applications is April 30, 2026, and all submissions must be made through official ECOWAS recruitment channels, including the bloc’s careers portal and designated application email addresses. The organisation has emphasised that no fees are required to apply and warned prospective candidates to be cautious of recruitment scams. Selection processes for some positions may involve written assessments and competency‑based interviews as part of the screening and evaluation stages ahead of final appointments.
