Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two suspects for the alleged vandalism of critical railway infrastructure and recovered materials valued at over N400 million, despite being offered a staggering N100 million bribe to compromise the investigation. The arrest was carried out on April 9, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence.

The suspects have been identified as Chisom Goodnews (32) and Ahmed Adamu (22), who were apprehended by the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The operation led to the interception of a trailer truck carrying approximately 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers. In a bid to evade detection, the materials were concealed under sacks of groundnut shells.

The consignment was being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State, revealing a well-organised network operating across state lines. Preliminary investigations uncovered that the driver of the truck was contracted for N2.5 million to transport the vandalised materials, while findings further indicate the existence of an organized supply chain linked to receivers of such stolen infrastructure.

In a dramatic twist, the operatives involved in the investigation reportedly rejected an offer of N100 million made in a bid to compromise the process and secure the release of the suspects and the recovered exhibits.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the officers' unwavering commitment to duty exemplifies the core values of the Force. The trailer truck has also been recovered, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the intended receivers, and to recover additional exhibits.

The Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended the operatives for their courage, discipline, and incorruptibility, stating that such acts reflect the core values of the Force. The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s assets from vandalism.
