The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has officially launched Rev360, a next-generation digital tax administration platform, marking a decisive shift from manual, fragmented processes to an integrated, technology-driven system designed to improve compliance, transparency, and the overall taxpayer experience across the country. The platform went live on Thursday, 30 April 2026, following a successful pilot phase and weeks of stakeholder engagement, training, and public communication. Described by the agency as the move towards “Tax Administration 3.0,” Rev360 is built around end-to-end automation, real-time reporting, and the embedding of tax processes into existing business systems.

According to the NRS, the new system will replace the legacy TaxPro Max platform and bring Nigeria’s tax administration closer to global best practices, allowing the tax authority to monitor compliance in real-time and businesses to file returns more efficiently.

A key feature of Rev360 is the shift from periodic, delayed filings to real-time transaction reporting, a transformation that tax experts say could give authorities unprecedented visibility into economic activity and significantly reduce revenue leakages. Under the new system, businesses may be required to report transactions as they occur rather than at the end of the month or quarter, limiting opportunities for under‑declaration.

The platform also integrates the Tax Identification Number (TIN) as a single, mandatory identifier across all tax processes, meaning every transaction, filing, and correspondence must be accurately tied to a valid Tax ID, effectively standardising how taxpayers are identified and tracked within the system. Analytics and tax technology specialists have noted that this single source of truth for taxpayer data is expected to improve accuracy, reduce duplication, and make it easier for the tax authority to link transactions across different tax types and detect reporting inconsistencies.

In a statement issued ahead of the launch, the NRS explained that Rev360 represents the next phase in the evolution of tax administration within the service. “From the early era of fragmented processes, the NRS transitioned to a more digital and accessible system through platforms such as TaxPro Max, which enabled electronic filing, improved compliance, and reduced physical interactions,” the statement read. “Building on these gains, Rev360 introduces a more advanced, integrated, and intelligent ecosystem designed to meet the growing needs of taxpayers and the economy.” The NRS further stated that with Rev360, the service intentionally moves towards Tax Administration 3.0, an era defined by end-to-end automation, real-time reporting, and embedded tax processes into taxpayers’ natural systems.

The agency noted that this shift would enable faster processing, improved decision-making, enhanced compliance, and a more seamless user experience, adding that taxpayers would benefit from more options and greater flexibility in their interactions with the tax authority.

The rollout of Rev360 has been designed using a structured, phased approach to ensure system stability and adequate support for users. Following a successful pilot, the platform is being implemented first for medium and emerging taxpayers, before being scaled to large corporates and other taxpayer segments. The NRS has been conducting comprehensive communication, training, and stakeholder engagement programmes to ensure readiness, with the agency reaffirming its commitment to continuously improving its systems and delivering efficient, transparent, and taxpayer-focused services. The initiative forms part of the broader technology advancement strategy of the NRS under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, whose vision continues to drive innovation and service excellence.

Friday Adegbite, a tax consultant based in Lagos, said the launch of Rev360 could fundamentally alter how compliance is measured in Nigeria. “This is not just a system upgrade. It fundamentally changes how compliance happens,” Adegbite told a business news outlet in an interview. “With real-time validation and visibility, businesses can no longer rely on timing differences or manual gaps. The expectation is accuracy from the point of transaction.” His assessment reflects the growing view among industry analysts that the NRS is moving decisively away from a system that previously tolerated filing delays and under‑reporting, toward a framework where economic activity is tracked almost as soon as it occurs.

The new platform is also expected to streamline the filing and payment processes for key taxes, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Corporate Income Tax, and withholding tax. The e‑invoicing element of Rev360 operates using a clearance model, where the tax authority must authenticate every invoice in real time before it is issued to the customer, significantly reducing the space for fake or under‑declared invoices.

The NRS has previously stated that over 500,000 active corporate taxpayers are now in the national database, and the transition to an integrated system is expected to further expand the tax base without increasing tax rates. In a lecture delivered earlier this year, Adedeji explained that the new tax laws were built for a digital environment, saying that “without technology, the laws remain aspirational; with technology, they become operational.”

The launch of Rev360 comes against the backdrop of broader revenue reforms that have reshaped Nigeria’s fiscal landscape. The NRS itself is a successor agency to the defunct Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), established under the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025, following the signing of four major tax reform bills by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025. The rebranding, which took effect in January 2026, gave the new agency an expanded mandate to collect both tax and non‑tax revenues, integrating systems with other revenue‑generating bodies to improve oversight of funds entering the Federation Account. Announcing the launch of Rev360, the service noted that the platform reinforces its commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, improving taxpayer confidence, and supporting national development.

As the NRS counts down to the full deployment of Rev360, taxpayers and businesses have been urged to familiarise themselves with the new system’s onboarding procedures. The agency has assured the public that ongoing guidance and support will be provided throughout the transition. In a social media post on its official X handle, the NRS described the platform as the fulfilment of its promise to take taxpayers along on an innovative and customer-centric journey. “You say transformation, we say Rev360!!!” the agency wrote. With Nigeria’s revenue performance having shown persistent volatility, including a 3.78 percent decline in VAT collections between the third and fourth quarters of 2025, the shift to real‑time reporting and automated compliance monitoring is widely seen as a critical step in stabilising and growing the country’s revenue base.
