Troops have arrested two suspected terrorists during a routine stop‑and‑search operation in Yobe State, according to a counter‑insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama.
In a statement posted on X, Makama said that the suspects, identified as Dahiru Mohammed, 40, and Ismail Adamu, 34, both natives of Geidam, were apprehended at about 8:00 a.m. on April 30 at a checkpoint operated by troops at B Company location in Kanama.
The suspects were intercepted while returning from Damasak market when troops conducted a routine check that led to their arrest, Makama stated. Preliminary investigation disclosed incriminating images on their mobile phones suggesting possible affiliation with terrorist elements, he added.
Items recovered from the suspects include two smartphones, seven hijabs, seven pairs of footwear, two towels, 107 veils, one umbrella, two praying mats, 34 turbans, one set of prayer beads, children’s clothing and the sum of N408,500.
The suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution, Makama revealed.
