The Kwara State Police Command announced on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the arrest of six suspected kidnappers following a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation in Baruten Local Government Area. According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the breakthrough came after a case of kidnapping was reported on April 23, 2026, involving one Isaq J., a male resident of Boriya Village via Okuta.
The abductors demanded N50 million and the victim was eventually released after sustained pressure by security forces.
On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at about 8:15 p.m., police operatives arrested Mohammed Shede, a male from Boriya Village, in connection with the crime.
During interrogation, Shede confessed to providing actionable intelligence to members of the gang identified as “Smalley” and “Borugujo”, which facilitated the tracking and abduction of the victim at his farm. Following up on the information, investigators arrested Abubakar Aliu, described as the gang’s armourer, as well as Abu Sonkpia, Saliu Yakubu, and Sanni Sakariyau, all from Boriya Village.
The suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping and also admitted to an armed robbery attack on one Muhammed Manu of the same community.
From them, security operatives recovered two locally made rifles and six mobile phones. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, including “Smalley”, “Borugujo”, and two additional accomplices who remain at large. The command has urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
