It was reported in the early hours of Wednesday, 6 May 2026, that suspected hoodlums intercepted a truck driver in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu East Local Government Area, Ogun State, and forcefully drove away with his DAF truck loaded with motor spare parts. The driver, who was conveying the goods, had his vehicle hijacked but managed to raise an alarm. Responding to the distress call, detectives attached to the Ijebu Imushin Division, alongside highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene. The pressure of the police intervention forced the suspects to abandon the truck and flee the scene.

The prompt response of the operatives effectively thwarted the criminal operation, preventing the loss of the vehicle and the goods it was conveying. During the incident, the truck driver sustained a minor injury to his right ankle and was promptly given first aid treatment by the officers on the scene.

A thorough search of the recovered DAF truck by the police detectives led to the discovery of a locally made weapon. The Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that a "wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, used by the suspects in the operation," was found hidden inside the vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response to the incident, reaffirming the command's unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all road users and residents of Ogun State. He further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities.

DSP Babaseyi, speaking on behalf of the command, assured that operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution. The police command also appealed to the public for cooperation, urging anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station. The emergency lines of the Ogun State Police Command were also provided to the public for reporting suspicious activities.
