The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over allegations of engaging in same-sex sexual activities. The command said the arrests followed information received by its operatives and an investigation directed by the Commissioner of Police.

The suspects were identified as Ayomide Lukeman, 22; Shuaib Aremu, 22; and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23. Their arrests were announced on Friday, October 16, 2026, by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who said the operation was carried out by personnel of the Command Monitoring Unit, Saki Operational Base.

According to Olayinka, the police received intelligence on September 29, 2026, concerning the alleged involvement of some individuals in what the command described as unnatural sexual conduct. Following the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the Monitoring Unit to verify the information and take appropriate action.

The police spokesperson explained that the subsequent operation resulted in the arrest of the three suspects. However, the command did not disclose the exact date of their arrest or provide further details about the location where they were apprehended within Saki.

Olayinka said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly admitted to engaging in same-sex sexual activities. According to the police account, two of the men reportedly acknowledged having sexual relations with the third suspect on several occasions, while the third was allegedly referred to by the others as their wife.

The reported admissions form part of the police account and have not been established through court proceedings. The statement did not disclose the circumstances in which the alleged admissions were obtained or provide independent evidence concerning the accusations.

The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations. He added that investigators were also examining whether any other individuals were connected to the matter.

In its statement, the Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the investigation professionally and impartially. The command said all necessary investigative procedures would be followed before determining the appropriate action based on its findings.

The arrests come under Nigeria's legal framework regulating same-sex relationships and certain sexual activities. The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act prohibits same-sex marriages and civil unions, while other provisions of Nigerian criminal law address sexual conduct between men.

However, the police statement did not identify the specific legal provisions under which the three suspects might be prosecuted. It also did not announce formal criminal charges or confirm that any of the men had appeared before a court.

The command urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and investigating criminal activities. Residents were advised to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on 615 or the Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413 when necessary.

As of the latest statement, investigations remained ongoing, and no court had been reported to have determined the allegations against Lukeman, Aremu and Mufeed. The three men remain entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty before a competent court.
