Suspected armed bandits have reportedly attacked Kagara community in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting at least 12 residents and leaving one person injured during an overnight raid.

The attack reportedly occurred on the night of Friday, October 16, into Saturday, October 17, 2026, in Kagara community, Talata Mafara LGA. According to information received about the incident, the assailants invaded the community and took at least 12 people captive, while another resident sustained injuries.

The identities of the abducted residents and the injured person have not been disclosed. Details concerning the nature of the injuries, the precise time of the attack and the circumstances in which the victims were taken remain unconfirmed.

The report did not establish the number of attackers involved or whether security personnel responded during the incident. There was also no confirmed information concerning the whereabouts of the abducted residents at the time of reporting.

Kagara District has previously experienced attacks involving armed groups. In January 2026, the Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government Area, Yahaya Abubakar Yari, confirmed that bandits attacked Matura village in Kagara District, killing one person and abducting three others.

The district was also the location of a security operation reported in August 2026, when the Zamfara State Police Command announced that a joint team of police operatives, Community Protection Guards and Civilian Joint Task Force personnel rescued two abducted victims near Tashar Lawali village. The command said one suspected bandit was killed during the encounter and an AK-47 rifle was recovered.

Those earlier incidents were separate from the latest reported attack on Kagara community. No connection between the incidents or the individuals involved has been established.

The latest report comes amid continuing security concerns in Zamfara State. On October 5, Governor Dauda Lawal said his administration was working to improve the response time of security agencies, particularly in communities affected by repeated attacks.

Speaking during a media engagement, the governor identified road access and the use of surveillance technology as measures being pursued to strengthen security operations in difficult-to-reach areas of the state.

However, no official statement specifically addressing the latest reported attack on Kagara community had been independently verified at the time of publication.

The reported abduction of at least 12 residents and injury to another person remain the central details of the incident. Further confirmation is awaited concerning the victims' identities, their whereabouts and any response by security authorities.
