Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been named the Transfermarkt Player of the Season in Turkey for the 2025/26 campaign. The honour, voted for by Transfermarkt users, has been awarded to Osimhen for the second consecutive season, underlining the Super Eagles star’s sustained excellence during his two-year spell with Galatasaray.
The award was announced on 26 May 2026 by Transfermarkt, the leading football data platform. Osimhen was selected ahead of all other Süper Lig players in a user vote, a testament to his immense impact on the league over the past 12 months. According to the Turkish outlet GZT, Transfermarkt cited Osimhen's "consistent performance" as the key factor in his selection.
Osimhen’s 2025/26 season statistics are impressive. Across all competitions, he scored 22 goals and provided 7 assists in 33 appearances for Galatasaray. In the Süper Lig specifically, he registered 15 goals in 22 league matches. His form was particularly notable in the UEFA Champions League, where he netted 7 goals in 10 appearances, including a memorable hat‑trick against Ajax in the group phase.
This recognition from Transfermarkt users adds to a growing list of personal honours for Osimhen. He was also named Footballer of the Year at Turkey’s 72nd Milliyet Sports Awards, becoming the first Nigerian to win that prestigious prize. Osimhen, who turned 27 during the season, has now cemented his status as one of the most prolific strikers in European football following his permanent move from Napoli in 2025.
The 2025/26 season also saw the Nigerian forward play a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s successful title defence. Osimhen scored twice in a dramatic 4‑2 comeback victory over Antalyaspor at RAMS Park on 9 May 2026, a win that secured a record 26th Turkish Super Lig championship for the club. It was Galatasaray’s fourth consecutive domestic crown, equalling the club’s own historic streak from 1996 to 2000.
Despite missing several weeks of action due to two separate injuries sustained on international duty, Osimhen returned to fitness and finished as Galatasaray’s top scorer in the league. He also helped the Istanbul giants reach the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, marking the first time a Turkish side had progressed that far in more than a decade.
As a result of his outstanding performances, Osimhen’s market value has remained stable. Transfermarkt currently lists the Nigerian international with a market value of €75 million, making him the most valuable player in the Turkish Süper Lig. Galatasaray have reportedly placed a €150 million valuation on their star striker, whose contract runs until 2029.
The award solidifies Osimhen’s place in the pantheon of Nigerian football exports. The former Napoli forward has now won back‑to‑back Turkish Super Lig titles, scored over 60 goals in 75 appearances for Galatasaray, and became the fastest player in the club’s history to reach 50 goals, achieving the milestone in just 59 matches.
For Nigerian football fans, Osimhen’s recognition by Transfermarkt is a point of pride. It demonstrates that the country continues to produce world‑class talent capable of dominating major leagues. His journey from the streets of Lagos to becoming the most valuable player in Turkey serves as an inspiration for a new generation of African footballers dreaming of European success.
