The Nigeria Democratic Congress has approved the appointments of Agada Abuh Theophilus as Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, and Brian Dennis as Deputy Director of New Media and Strategic Communications. The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, and made available to newsmen on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Agada Abuh Theophilus is a strategic communications professional with a proven record across political campaigns, corporate brand management, institutional public relations and new media. He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Communications, specialising in strategic communication for social and institutional development. He is currently a PhD candidate researching election administration and management.

Brian Dennis is a communications analyst with seven years of experience in strategic and political communications. He holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution. The party expressed confidence that both appointees would strengthen its voice and deepen its engagement with Nigerians across all platforms.

The appointments come as part of a broader push by the NDC to overhaul its communications machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party has been aggressively repositioning itself since its official registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission in February 2026. In May 2026, the NDC unveiled a presidential ticket consisting of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as its flagbearer and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.

The new appointments follow earlier decisions by the NDC leadership to strengthen its communication structure. On May 16, 2026, the party appointed Osa Director, a veteran journalist, lawyer and pro-democracy advocate, as its National Publicity Secretary, alongside two deputies, Peter Agbo Ekele and Lawal Sabo Ibrahim. The party said at the time that the appointments were part of efforts to build a communication team grounded in professionalism, integrity and democratic values.

The NDC has also announced a series of other strategic appointments and electoral activities in recent weeks. On May 19, 2026, the party appointed former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator Sam Egwu, as chairman of its screening committee for presidential, governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has also conducted congresses in several states, including Kano, where it elected new state executives on May 7, 2026, and Zamfara, where Senator Kabiru Marafa emerged as the party’s governorship candidate on May 29, 2026.

The NDC has positioned itself as a leading opposition force seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections. The party’s communications team will be expected to play a critical role in shaping public perception, managing the party’s relationship with the media, and coordinating its digital and grassroots outreach efforts. The appointments of Agada Theophilus and Brian Dennis signal the party’s intent to blend professional communications expertise with political strategy ahead of the electoral contest.
