Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested two suspects in the Budo Pako area of Oke‑Oyan for allegedly possessing 250 live cartridges. The arrests, which took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, followed an intelligence‑led operation targeting the illegal supply of ammunition to criminal networks operating within and outside the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, June 11. The suspects were identified as Ganiyu Sodiq, 35, and Salaudeen Sheriff, 23, both residents of Komu Town in the Oke Ogun region. According to DSP Olayinka, the two men were apprehended at Budo Pako, Oke‑Oyan, where a total of 250 live cartridges were recovered from their possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects could not offer any lawful explanation or satisfactory account for the ammunition found on them. “Further investigative findings indicate that the suspects are believed to be involved in the illicit trafficking and supply of ammunition to criminal elements operating within and beyond the state,” the police spokesperson said. Ongoing intelligence‑driven efforts are aimed at dismantling the wider network, identifying possible collaborators, and determining the source as well as the intended destination of the recovered cartridges.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, used the opportunity to reaffirm the command’s unwavering commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, which he described as key enablers of violent crimes. He assured residents that the police are deploying all lawful measures to ensure that individuals engaged in criminal activities are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice. The commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and actionable information to law enforcement agencies, stressing that community support remains vital in the collective fight against crime.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Upon conclusion of the inquiry, they will be charged to court accordingly. This arrest is part of the Oyo State Police Command’s broader effort to enhance public safety and curb the proliferation of arms and ammunition, which have fuelled rising incidents of violence, kidnappings, and insecurity across the region.
