The Delta State High Court of Justice, Asaba Judicial Division, has ordered the remand of four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate following their arraignment over the recovery of a Beretta pistol concealed inside a commercial transport waybill at Effurun transport park in Uvwie Local Government Area. The suspects – Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill and Amadi Felix Chibuike – were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations in Bayelsa and Imo States after a painstaking investigation linked them to the illegal procurement, distribution and movement of firearms across state lines. The incident dates back to an April 26, 2026 operation during which security operatives intercepted a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm live ammunition hidden in a transit package at the Effurun motor park.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, June 11, 2026, explaining that following the conclusion of investigations, the command charged the four suspects before the court on a five‑count charge. The offences include unlawful possession of a firearm punishable under Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, possession of a fabricated Beretta pistol contrary to Section 3 of the same Act, and unlawful possession of four rounds of 9mm live ammunition contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act. The suspects also face charges of conspiracy to belong to an unlawful society under Section 516A of the Criminal Code Law of Delta State, and membership of the proscribed Black Axe Confraternity under the state’s prohibition law.

After the suspects pleaded not guilty, the court remanded them in custodial custody pending further proceedings, while the police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate who remain at large. The case is part of a broader investigation into firearm movement in Delta State, with the recovered weapon traced through the transport waybill and linked to the extra‑judicial killing of Oghenemine Ogidi (also known as OG Millan). Dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman and four other officers have already been remanded over the fatal shooting of Ogidi in an earlier incident.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal firearms, cultism and other violent crimes, assuring residents that the police will continue to pursue and prosecute criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
