Thai police have arrested an alleged Nigerian drug trafficking suspect during a late-night operation in Bangkok following a dramatic standoff involving an attempted escape and vehicle confrontation with officers.
The arrest took place on Tuesday, 10 June 2026, in the Rama III Road area of Bangkok’s Yannawa district, according to multiple Thai media reports and police updates cited in local press coverage.
The suspect, identified by investigators as Ikenna Patrick Azubuike, a 36-year-old Nigerian national, was allegedly the leader of a transnational cocaine trafficking network operating in Thailand under a group described by authorities as “Dodorima.”
Police said the operation was carried out by the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) in coordination with the Narcotics Suppression Bureau and Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) after a months-long investigation into drug distribution networks linked to foreign criminal groups operating in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.
Authorities stated that officers tracked the suspect to a condominium building in Bangkok, where surveillance teams moved in to arrest him. During the operation, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee by driving his vehicle toward a police blockade, prompting officers to use force to stop the car.
Reports indicate that the confrontation escalated into a standoff as officers disabled the vehicle and prevented escape. Police later confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
Investigators said the arrest followed intelligence linking the suspect to a wider cocaine distribution network allegedly operating across tourist areas and residential zones in Bangkok. The group is also believed to have connections to financial transactions running into hundreds of millions of baht.
During the raid, police reportedly seized a small quantity of cocaine found in the suspect’s vehicle, along with assets and electronic devices believed to be connected to the network’s operations. Further searches were conducted at a nearby condominium unit linked to the suspect.
Thai authorities said the investigation initially began in May 2026, following raids on suspected drug and related criminal operations involving foreign nationals. The probe later expanded after intelligence revealed connections between drug trafficking activities and other organized crime networks operating in the region.
Officials described the suspect as having been in Thailand for several years and allegedly progressing from low-level drug distribution roles into a higher position within an organized trafficking structure.
The arrest forms part of ongoing intensified efforts by Thai law enforcement agencies to dismantle transnational narcotics networks operating in Bangkok, particularly those involving cocaine distribution and cross-border financial flows.
Authorities have not yet disclosed formal charges or court proceedings, and the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
Police also confirmed that additional suspects linked to the wider network are being traced as part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling the structure of the alleged criminal group.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau stated that further details will be released as the investigation progresses and evidence is processed for prosecution.
The case has drawn attention in Thailand due to the scale of the alleged network and the dramatic nature of the arrest operation, which involved a high-speed escape attempt and coordinated police response in a densely populated urban area.
Investigations remain ongoing.
