Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 300‑level Biochemistry student, Mr David Ocholi Solomon, following what authorities described as a cult‑related clash on campus. The victim's father, Mr. Solomon Idachaba, has confirmed that the suspects were apprehended within two hours of the incident and handed over to law enforcement for further investigation and prosecution.
The attack occurred on Friday, June 12, 2026, when unknown gunmen reportedly attacked the victim inside the university campus in what was said to be a cult clash. The Vice‑Chancellor of PAAU, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, who received news of the student’s death while attending the 35th Annual National Conference of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan, described the incident as “deeply painful and distressing” and said it “plunged the entire university community into mourning”.
Professor Usman confirmed that the two suspects were arrested by the university’s internal security team within two hours of the killing and have since been handed over to security agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution. He gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at their residence in Lokoja on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The Vice‑Chancellor reiterated the university’s zero‑tolerance policy towards cultism, violence and criminality, stating that those found responsible would face the full weight of the law.
In response to the tragedy, the university management has intensified security surveillance and strengthened existing security mechanisms across the campus and its environs, with additional security reforms expected in the coming days. Following the killing, PAAU also suspended all forms of student celebrations on campus, including Final Year Brethren (FYB) gatherings, citing “serious security concerns” and the need to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
The father of the deceased, Mr. Solomon Idachaba, who thanked the Vice‑Chancellor and the university management for their swift response, expressed confidence that justice would be served. The university has appealed to the public and the deceased’s family to support ongoing investigations by providing any useful information that could assist security agencies in uncovering the full circumstances of the incident. The university management assured the bereaved family that it would closely monitor the case and work with security agencies to ensure that anyone found responsible at the conclusion of the investigation is brought to justice.
