The people of Dandume Local Government Area in Katsina State are mourning the loss of one of their most prominent farmers, Alhaji Bala Sanin Kawo, who was abducted by bandits and later killed, family sources confirmed on Sunday.

Alhaji Bala was kidnapped on Thursday, June 11, 2026, alongside one of his aides, Bara'u Kwaro, while returning from one of his farms near Dantakari town. The bandits abducted the two men and held them for several days. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m., the gunmen contacted the family and informed them that they had killed Alhaji Bala. They directed relatives to a location where his body could be recovered.

Alhaji Bala was widely regarded as one of the most influential agricultural figures in Dandume. He was the eldest son of Alhaji Sani Kawo, a respected farmer in the history of the local government. According to community sources, he produced thousands of bags of farm produce annually and provided employment for over 5,000 people in the area. His death has left a deep void in the agricultural and business community of Dandume.

The killing comes amid worsening insecurity in Dandume and neighbouring local government areas, where residents have endured repeated attacks, abductions and killings in recent days. The Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Family and friends have called on authorities to intensify efforts to track down the bandits and bring them to justice.

The body of Alhaji Bala has been recovered and prepared for burial according to Islamic rites. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends and the people of Dandume the strength to bear this painful loss.
