Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Monday, June 15, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings in his ongoing corruption trial instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The former governor arrived at the court premises around 9:30 a.m., accompanied by officials of the anti‑graft agency, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. A viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) captured El‑Rufai entering the court complex in the company of security personnel, with visible heavy security presence around the court premises.
The ICPC is prosecuting El‑Rufai over allegations of abuse of office, fraud and financial misconduct during his tenure as Kaduna State governor. Prosecutors allege that El‑Rufai approved and released public funds for projects that were either not executed, not properly accounted for, or were allegedly managed in violation of due process. El‑Rufai has consistently denied all the charges and has pleaded not guilty. On Monday, the court was expected to continue hearing motions and legal arguments from both the prosecution and defence teams as the trial progresses.
The former governor was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Kaduna on April 14, 2026, in the sum of ₦200 million. The bail was granted with strict conditions, including the provision of two sureties. One of the sureties is required to be a serving or retired civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler. El‑Rufai’s legal team had approached the court seeking a review of some of the bail conditions, following earlier legal arguments over the terms attached to his release.
The trial has attracted significant national attention because of El‑Rufai’s political profile and his role in the country’s political landscape over the years. Security was visibly heightened around the court complex on Monday to ensure order during the proceedings. Officials of the ICPC, DSS and Nigeria Police Force were seen positioned around the court premises as the matter came up for hearing.
