Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a firm directive to the Inspector‑General of Police and the United Bank for Africa (UBA), demanding the immediate withdrawal of security support for what he described as “illegally occupying” All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen and the restoration of full recognition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials he described as duly elected.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Monday, June 15, 2026, the governor said the Federal High Court in Osogbo had dismissed an application for tenure elongation filed by the APC chairmen, ruling that they lacked the legal standing to institute the suit and that their tenure, if any, expired in October 2025.
“The judgment affirms constitutional provisions and validates the position of the duly elected local government chairmen,” Adeleke declared. “The court has once again affirmed that there is no room for tenure elongation.”
Based on the ruling, the governor ordered the Commissioner of Police in Osun State to immediately cease providing security cover for the APC chairmen occupying council secretariats. “I specifically direct the Commissioner of Police to stop providing further security cover for the illegal occupation of the council secretariats by the sacked chairmen,” he stated.
Adeleke also called on the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to halt what he termed “illegal collaboration” with the affected chairmen. He reminded the bank that it had previously sworn to an affidavit affirming that all disputed local government funds remained intact. “Based on this affidavit and today’s judgment, we insist that UBA must ensure that every kobo of the local government fund is secured and accounted for,” he said. “Signatories prescribed by law should be allowed to operate the accounts so that workers can receive pensions and other entitlements.”
The governor further appealed to all law enforcement agencies to support the immediate restoration of the PDP council officials, stating: “We demand that all law enforcement agents should support the immediate restoration of the duly elected local government chairmen. This is the path of law and the constitution.”
In a related development, Adeleke also addressed the Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that ordered the deregistration of the Accord Party and four other political parties. He described the judgment as “an affront to the Court of Appeal” and “an open threat against the integrity of the electoral process,” noting that the appellate court had already stayed proceedings on the matter until October. “We are therefore surprised that the lower court proceeded to act on a matter already acted upon by the higher court,” he said.
The governor assured residents that the ruling would not prevent his political platform from participating in the August 15 governorship election. “The judgment cannot stand; Accord will be on the ballot; we will be on the ballot; and we will win resoundingly on August 15th,” he declared.
