The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Ijala Engineering Services, has organised a one-day sensitisation and enlightenment workshop on the Community Content Guidelines (CCG) in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, drawing a large turnout of participants from host communities and stakeholder groups. The workshop, which was held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, was aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the CCG framework, which seeks to enhance the participation of host communities in the oil and gas industry and ensure that they benefit from the resources extracted from their localities.
Technical presentations at the workshop focused on the role of NCDMB’s Zonal Coordination Office, the importance of Community Content Guidelines, community contracting opportunities, access to funding schemes, and registration on the NOGIC JQS platform. The interactive session also provided participants with the opportunity to provide feedback and seek clarification on implementation strategies and available opportunities within the oil and gas sector. The workshop underscored NCDMB's commitment to deepening local content and ensuring that the benefits of oil and gas operations are more equitably distributed to host communities.
The Community Content Guidelines, developed by NCDMB, are designed to operationalise the provisions of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, 2010, by mandating oil and gas operators and their contractors to integrate host communities into their project execution plans. The guidelines cover areas such as employment, training, goods and services procurement, and infrastructure development, with a focus on ensuring that local communities are not left behind as the industry evolves.
Ijala Engineering Services, a Nigerian oil and gas servicing company, has partnered with NCDMB to drive awareness and implementation of the guidelines, recognising that sustainable development of the oil and gas sector requires the active participation and buy-in of host communities. The workshop is part of a broader effort by NCDMB to engage stakeholders across the Niger Delta and other oil-producing regions, promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual understanding between communities, operators, and regulators. Participants expressed appreciation for the workshop, describing it as timely and informative, and called for more such engagements to ensure that communities are adequately equipped to take advantage of the opportunities available in the oil and gas industry.
