LAGOS, Nigeria – Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has launched a blistering counterattack against Judy Austin, the second wife of her nephew Yul Edochie, after Judy claimed that her ex‑husband was allegedly paid to destroy her home and reputation. In a viral Instagram post on Friday, June 19, 2026, Rita Edochie questioned the irony of Judy's allegation and fired a direct question back at her: "WHO PAID YOU TO SCATTER QUEEN MAY YUL EDOCHIE'S HOME?" The exchange marks the latest escalation in a long‑running family drama that has captivated Nigerian social media since Yul Edochie publicly introduced Judy as his second wife in 2022.

The controversy was ignited earlier this week when Emmanuel Obasi, Judy Austin's former husband, granted a series of emotional interviews alleging that his marriage to Austin ended because of her relationship with Yul Edochie. In one interview, Obasi claimed that Judy had been infatuated with Yul while still married to him, and alleged that Yul had made promises to her that undermined their marriage. He also alleged that he had been denied access to his children and pleaded with the public to help locate them.

In response, Judy Austin issued a statement denying the allegations, insisting that her marriage to Obasi ended in March 2013 and that she only met Yul Edochie in 2016 on a movie set, three years after her separation. She described Obasi's claims as "cooked‑up lies" and urged bloggers and social media users to stop directing insults at Yul Edochie.

However, it was Judy's claim that some individuals were financially induced to damage her image and that of her household that drew Rita Edochie's ire. In her social media post, the veteran actress dismantled Judy's narrative with a series of pointed questions. "DID I HEAR THEY PAID MR OBASI TO SCATTER HER HOME? PLEASE, WHICH HOME EXACTLY? THE ONE THAT WAS COVETED? THE STOLEN HOME? A HOME BUILT ON ANOTHER WOMAN'S PAIN AND TEARS?" she wrote. She described Judy's relationship with Yul as one built on "lies, deceit, and adultery" and questioned how Judy could accuse others of destroying a home when she had been accused by critics of contributing to the collapse of Yul's marriage to his first wife, May Edochie.

Rita Edochie also came to the defence of Emmanuel Obasi, who has faced intense online backlash for speaking publicly about his experiences. "What baffles me the most is how some men and women have completely lost their conscience. They keep trolling Mr Obasi for speaking up," she wrote. "Apologise for what exactly? For expressing his pain? For telling his side of the story? For refusing to die in silence? Wear the same shoes he is wearing and let us see whether you would choose silence over speaking out."

In a separate development, Yul Edochie broke his silence on the custody aspect of the dispute. In a statement shared on his social media pages, he distanced himself from the controversy, insisting that he has never prevented anyone from seeing their children. "I have never stopped anybody from seeing his children. Tell him to call his ex‑wife, if he wants to see or take his children, let them discuss it. He has her number. It has nothing to do with me," Yul wrote.

The feud has drawn widespread reactions on social media, with many users rallying behind Rita Edochie's statement and expressing support for May Edochie, Yul's first wife. Others have debated whether airing family matters publicly helps or hurts. One user commented: "She said she already left her ex husband before meeting Yul but the million dollar question is, was Yul single when she met him? She left hers to scatter another person's home." The heated exchange adds another chapter to the already tense drama surrounding the Edochie family, with fans and critics alike taking sides and demanding what they describe as "the real truth".
